Responsive Reading Good Friday
<cFFD8D800>Liturgist : When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. And they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate the governor. Pilate said to the crowd, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”</c>
Cong : They all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas. They kept shouting, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” “Crucify, crucify him!”
<cFFD8D800>Liturgist : So Pilate delivered him over to them to be crucified. They took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. There they crucified him. </c>
Cong : Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him, one on his right and one on his left.
<cFFD8D800>Liturgist : And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”</c>
Cong : It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun's light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
<cFFD8D800>Liturgist : Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. </c>
L & C : He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
